Simon Daum

Simon Daum is a MySpace friend of Music 2 Work 2 who composes Classical/Healing and Easy Listening music. He is from Germany.

His music is relaxing and very lovely. It is mostly piano driven. I really enjoyed listening to all four musical pieces on his MySpace page, but I think my favorite is "Be Still." "Be Still" reminds me a great deal of Music 2 Work 2's "Victoria." Both are calming, beautiful pieces.

Piero Baldan

One of the really fun parts of finding other musicians to be MySpace friends to Music 2 Work 2 is getting to hear so many different types of music, instruments, etc.

Piero Baldan, one of our MySpace friends, is a cellist; he plays cello, guitar and bass guitar. Piero Baldan is from Venezia, Italy. His music is classified as Classical/Minimalist/Experimental.

Four musical pieces are available to listen to on his MySpace page. I especially like Giorgia and Cavalli Metafisici. Both of these pieces are harmonious and have an upbeat tempo. For a musical experience that is pleasant and somewhat different, I recommend listening to these pieces by Piero Baldan.

Jo Blankenburg

I like to bring the music of some of the MySpace friends of Music 2 Work 2, that I have found interesting and enjoyable, to your attention. After all, isn't that part of what this community of friends is about?

One such MySpace friend is Jo Blankenburg, a composer, pianist and producer, living in New Zealand. His music is described as Classical/Ambient/Electronica. Jo Blankenburg's emphasis is in cinematic music; he has several film scores to his credit. But, with all his music, his intention is "to evoke visualizations in the mind of the listener."

Of the music accessible on his MySpace page, I particularly like "Awakening" and "No Bliss Without Grief." Listen to the music of Jo Blankenburg and see what you think.

New plan for website

There is a new piece of music posted on Music 2 Work 2. Angst - Development 1 is the first track of a session that is being composed.

We will be changing the Music 2 Work 2 website, as Andrew tells about in the description accompanying the track, so you will be able to follow the process as sessions are being composed. I think it is a great idea; I know I like to read about his thoughts and the process used to give life to a new composition. It still amazes me that he can start by listening to a beat, the clicking of a metronome - begin playing - - and beautiful music flows from his fingers. Some sessions grow and take life as he adds the other voices, one at a time. Some are complete in the one voice of the piano.

So, watch the Music 2 Work 2 website for some changes, including being able to witness the process and have an inside view of the development of new sessions.

Zenima

Zenima is one of our MySpace friends from Czech Republic, Switzerland and Italy. Her music is categorized as Alternative/Classical/Minimalist. Zenima is a songwriter-singer-composer. She has a clear, sweet voice and sings with feeling and passion.

Of the four examples of her music available to hear on her MySpace page, my favorite is Butterfly ft Bocelli. The voices of Zenima and Andrea Bocelli combine beautifully in this piece.

Most of the MySpace friends of Music2Work2 play musical instruments and compose. Zenima is one of the few vocalist/composers among our friends so far.

Still no Store

I can't believe the week has ended and still there are no tracks available on our Snocap MyStore. Still have not had a response to my question about the problem from Snocap customer support. It is very frustrating to me; luckily Andrew is a more patient human being than I am, so he has helped convince me to give them a while longer. I was about ready to remove the whole thing and start from scratch - - of course, there is no assurance that all this won't happen again.

This weekend will hold a big event for my family - my niece is getting married. I can't believe it! There just seems no way that she should be old enough to be getting married. Of course, it means that I am much older also, which isn't a pleasant thought. I have spent so much time with her - playing with her when she was little, watching her after school until her parents got home, picking her up from school, taking her to after-school activities - - it almost seems that she is my own child. I will always treasure the time I got to spend with her; when my nephew was growing up I lived in a different state. I know the wedding will be beautiful and she will be happy. That won't mean that I'll be able to hold back the tears; I cry at the smallest things and this is a major event.

There will be out-of-town guests staying in my home, so if I don't get to write a blog every day next week, that is the reason why. But, I'll try my best to be able to post one.

New Music 2 Work 2 Session

There is a new session on the Music 2 Work 2 web site. 211 Train is a lovely piece consisting of piano and strings.

The tempo and the voices in this session do indeed evoke the image of a train, moving rapidly along the tracks until finally reaching its destination and pulling slowly into the station. I can imagine that it is going someplace new and exciting - someplace where new adventures will unfold.

Geigertek

Geigertek Music is another of our MySpace friends who has an interesting sound and whose music reminds me of many of the Music 2 Work 2 sessions. Geigertek is from East Norwich, United Kingdom. It consists of two members, Neil Fellowes and Conrad Geiger.

Their music is described as Electronica/Ambient/Experimental. The synthesizers give their music a unique sound; the pieces available to listen to on their MySpace page are relaxing and beautiful music. Check them out!

This Harmony

This Harmony is one of our MySpace friends whose music you might want to check out. This Harmony is from Italy; the group is made up of four members, playing indie/ambient music.

Since their web page is written entirely in Italian, and I cannot translate it, I don't know anything about the group itself. I believe their music consists of guitar, bass, drums and violin.

Their music is lovely, pleasing to listen to and well performed. Of the three pieces available to hear on their MySpace page, Improvvisazione 11 is my favorite.

Another week......another problem

It's the beginning of a new week, and unfortunately the problems with the Snocap MyStore continue. I have successfully uploaded 7 tracks for the catalogue, they have been registered by Snocap, but they are not showing up on the MyStore on our MySpace page. Snocap has responded to the emails I have sent asking for help with this, saying that the signup and questions have been so numerous recently that they are behind in answering emails. If other individuals are having as much trouble as I am having, no wonder they are behind in answering emails. I am anxious to get this straightened out and have our music available for purchase. In the meantime, Music 2 Work 2 sessions can be purchased from our web site through My Song Store.

Breath of Life Tribe

I want to bring to your attention one of our MySpace friends who has a unique sound, Breath of Life Tribe (B.O.L.T.). Their music is said to be a new genre, "Dream Rock."

B.O.L.T. is made up of 5 members, playing guitars, violin, keys, bass, drums and three members performing the vocals. They are located in Los Angeles, California.

The music is harmonious and very pretty. The lyrics of their songs are meaningful and have a message about life, such as "Nothing Ever Comes" and "Everyone's the Same."

Someone suggests on their MySpace page that their music has almost a classical feel. I agree and at the same time it is unmistakably rock. Their music is quite good, very enjoyable to listen to. I would recommend checking them out!

Progress - - just a little

A little more successful day than yesterday. I finally got three tracks uploaded on our MySpace Store. I still don't know what the problem is because it is a matter of hit or miss. I might try to upload a track one time and get an error message saying it doesn't accept that type of file and to use an MP3. I will try to upload the very same file a few minutes later and it accepts it???

Andrew introduced me to a new software program today that "should" have made life easier with the Snocap project. I'm sure it will with projects to come, but so far it hasn't made a whole lot of difference in uploading the tracks. I think it is probably still a technical problem on their end, but who knows. At this rate it is going to be a slow process, but eventually I'll get all the music up, I hope, and it will be available to everyone on MySpace.com.

Problem with Snocap

We had the visitor's map taken off our MySpace page and replaced with the Snocap MyStore. For two days now, I have been trying to upload our music on the Snocap MyStore and I haven't been able to do it.

Since updating my computer a few months back, I have had trouble getting the security setting right. I don't know if this could have anything to do with my problem, but I get error messages like "there was a problem, try again later" and "incorrect file type." I know the tracks I am trying to upload are MP3 files. I wrote to the contact at the web site about the problem I am having, but have not received a response.

Maybe it is just that I don't know what I am doing. They claim that it is easy upload of your tracks. Unfortunately, I have found it frustrating and irritating.

Mario Raposo

Another of our MySpace friends whose music I particularly like is Mario Raposo. His music is classified as Electronica/Classical. Mario Raposo is from Portugal and is said to be a self-taught musician. His music is created on keyboards and synthesisers.

My favorite piece of the four available on his MySpace page is Heartland. It is a lovely, melodic piece that makes you feel good to listen to it. This piece reminds me a great deal of Victoria, a beautiful Music 2 Work 2 session. Victoria is one of my Music 2 Work 2 favorites also.

A frustrating Monday

Today has been a frustrating day. I spent some time trying to check out another of the web sites that Music 2 Work 2 has music available on. Each of these sites is different and to be able to do more than one or two justice, you would have to work on them practically non-stop.

We had two waves of terrible thunderstorms come through this afternoon. That messes up being able to do much as far as the computer goes. So, I haven't been able to spend much time on MySpace.com at all today. Too much to do and not enough time to do it. Guess it has just been a typical Monday.

Charles-Henri Avelange

I want to let you know about one of our MySpace friends who decided to help make a difference for a group of local citizens who serve their community. Charles-Henri Avelange, from France now located in Seattle, Washington, says that when he came to the United States in 2005, he discovered what the word "hero" actually means. He produced an album, The Age of Heroes, to honor all those individuals who risk their lives daily for our safety and our freedom.

More specifically, his album, The Age of Heroes, became the official fundraiser for the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters. The four pieces of music available to hear on his MySpace page are from The Age of Heroes. The music is beautiful, inspiring and moving. It is especially appropriate in a time when we have heroes risking their lives in foreign countries, and heroes here at home serving their fellow citizens not just daily but during the disasters that continue to plague our country. I would recommend you check it out.

Piano Man John

One of our newer friends on MySpace.com is Piano Man John. John Pederson is from California and is a pianist-keyboardist. His music reminds me a lot of Music 2 Work 2 sessions, and in fact, is referred to as "Healing and Easy Listening."

John Pederson's Themes of Love, which is one of my favorites on his MySpace page (along with First Anniversary) reminds me of Music 2 Work 2's Boys Bedtime Music. Both are piano pieces which are relaxing and calming. As with Music 2 Work 2, Piano Man John often combines other voices with the piano, but the four examples of his music on his MySpace page are the piano alone.

Michael Roth - rothmusik

Michael Roth - rothmusik, one of our MySpace friends, is based in Los Angeles, California. The music you can hear on his MySpace page is different from that of most of our other friends in that all the pieces except one are vocals; Michael Roth composed the music for each of them.

Michael Roth has an impressive list of credits - projects he has worked on and artists he has worked with. He is a composer, musician, sound designer, and pianist.

Of the four songs on his MySpace page, Then They Move On is my favorite. The music is really lovely. I do not know who the vocalist is, but she has a very pleasant voice also. It is a song from the soundtrack of a motion picture, Holy Days. I like the music so well that I think I'll have to try to find the movie and watch it.

Today's news

There are several pieces of news today - - a new clip has been posted on our MySpace.com page. Kelli Development is a brand new musical piece of piano and strings. It is not even up on the Music 2 Work 2 website yet, but you can hear it on MySpace.

There is a new session on the website, however. Emma's Numbers is a companion piece to Emma. Check out both of them!

And, finally, congratulations to Kelli.com; they now have their shopping cart up. This entire website looks fantastic. If you haven't seen it, be sure to go by and have a look around...............purchase a couple of their great songs while you are there!

A while back, I spent a great deal of time finding websites on which I could upload Music 2 Work 2 clips so that others could hear our music. Each website of course had its own rules and regulations about how many pieces of music you could upload and how the website operates - whether listeners could rate your music, if you could form a network of friends, etc. All these websites and their uses were new to me; I hadn't exactly spent time on music download sites prior to becoming involved in Music 2 Work 2.

One of the sites on which we registered Music 2 Work 2 and uploaded our music was FIQL.com; it is known as the "playlist sharing community." We have a couple of playlists set up there. Today we received an email saying that someone had bumped one of our playlists. When I read that, I immediately thought that it was something bad - - like bumped our playlist off. But, when I went to the website, I found out that it is actually good, a compliment - - it means that someone especially liked our playlist Background Music.

With everything else that has been going on lately, I haven't had time to check back with the other websites very often, certainly not often enough that I remember how each one functions. I see that it is something that I definitely need to do!

New clips on MySpace.com

There are two new clips on our MySpace page - Identification and Cassie. I spent today trying to cut the sessions down to clips short enough to post. I love the music so much, it is definitely hard to pick out just one part of it to be the clip.

Identification and Cassie are both wonderful pieces of music. You can hear the whole sessions on the Music 2 Work 2 web site. Just register, which is easy and free, and then enjoy!

Frank O'Connor

I want to share with you the music of one of our new MySpace friends. Frank O'Connor is originally from Ireland but now located in San Francisco, California. His music is a reflection of his heritage - Celtic/Ambient.

Frank O'Connor also refers to his music as "Healing and Easy Listening," so shares the premise on which Music 2 Work 2 is based - - Music is good for you. The tin whistle gives a hauntingly beautiful sound to his music.

There are three selections of his music available to hear on his MySpace page. My favorite of the three is The Rainbow Song, although I have to admit Amhrain Do Rae Son... is a close second. I would recommend checking out this lovely music for yourself.

Michael Nyman

Michael Nyman is not only one of our MySpace friends, but also an influence of Music 2 Work 2. Music 2 Work 2 sessions are often compared to his music.

Michael Nyman's music is in the classical genre. Of the four selections available on his MySpace page, two are vocal pieces, two instrumental. I especially like the instrumental pieces, "Chasing Sheep" being my favorite. It has an almost regal sound about it. This piece reminds me of Music 2 Work 2's Arrival in that they both evoke the image of the heralding of a great event.

Many of the musical artists and bands found on MySpace.com attribute Michael Nyman as being an influence on their work.

This has been a sad day. My friend and partner in Music 2 Work 2 has lost Lola, one of his dogs. She had an illness from which she could not recover. She was a sweet, loving little dog. I know she was a source of joy for her family and they loved her very much.

Caring about people, having friends, means that when they are hurting, you hurt also. It is a helpless feeling to watch friends in pain from a loss, knowing that no words or acts can make the hurt go away. You just hope that their knowing that you care about them and share their pain will somehow help a little.

When I lost my dog, Cassie, about 6 months ago, Andrew gave me the wonderful gift of a piece of music written just for her. I don't have the ability to do anything like that for him; I can only send him and his family love and wishes for comfort and strength during this time of loss.

eTheReal Soul Productions

One of the more unique bands among our MySpace friends is eTheReal Soul Productions. It is a fusion band from Los Angeles. The music is collaborations of different musicians, musical instruments and music styles.

Each of the four musical pieces available on their MySpace page is a different sound. I particularly like Barryesque and Free Flow. Both of these are instrumental pieces, sort of relaxing, chill music. Listening to Free Flow something about it reminds me of Music 2 Work 2's Ex Er Cise.

I really enjoy listening to the different compositions and presentations of the music of our MySpace friends.

You know the kind of day that, when it's over, you realize you were busy all day; you are tired; but you can't see a lot of accomplishments to make you feel good about your day. That is the day that I have had.

I was able to work on MySpace.com for Music 2 Work 2 a little but most of my time was spent "putting out fires." The organization I do volunteer work for seemed to be confronted with one problem after another. Maybe it's the time of year, maybe it's the weather - - whatever it is that causes all the problems to occur at one time has certainly been in full force for the past few days.

I suppose all I can do is hope for calmer, less frustrating, more productive days ahead.

New session

A new session has been added to the Music 2 Work 2 web site. Identification is a commissioned piece for an event concerned with identification.

This session consists of piano and strings. It is a beautiful, slow, relaxing musical piece. The composer's explanation of the thought process and theories used in composing this session is very interesting reading.

Century of Aeroplanes

Most of our MySpace friends have something about them in common with Music 2 Work 2 - the type of music, their influences, their sound, their understanding of the benefits of music. One of our friends whose music I enjoy and have found interesting is Century of Aeroplanes out of Louisville, KY. It is a band made up of 6 members playing piano, violin, electric bass, electric guitar, viola, percussion and double bass.

Their music is in the classical, ambient genre. It is lovely music and is unique in its sound. Of the four selections available on their MySpace page, the two that I like best are Andrea's Windowsill and White Room Sessions 6. Just wanted to share this band with our blog readers. See what you think!

A quick note -

Things are coming along with Music 2 Work 2 - I am still looking for friends on MySpace.com; there will be some new music available on Music 2 Work 2 in the near future; and we are still having new people register on the web site.

If I had written this earlier in the day, it might have been a longer blog. At the present time, I am dealing with a migraine, so just wanted to write a quick note to say that all is going well. Hopefully, I can do a better job with this tomorrow.

Noah Baerman

Noah Baerman is one of our MySpace friends and also a personal friend. He is a fantastic jazz pianist.

In 2003, he recorded the album "Patch Kit" to raise awareness and funds for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a connective tissue disorder which he has. In spite of the pain and limits placed on him by this debilitating disorder, Noah continues to compose and record great jazz.

May is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Awareness Month. I hope readers of this blog will check out Noah's music and also read about Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a little known disorder which affects 1 in 5000 individuals. I also have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, so I can especially appreciate Noah's determination to continue his marvelous music and to use it as a tool to spread the word about EDS.

Doogan vs antibiotics

Today has been an exhausting day. I am having to give my little dog, Doogan, liquid antibiotics for an infection. The vet told me that the medicine tasted terrible, as most antibiotics do, but he is small and liquid would probably be better for him than having to take it in pill form, due to the fact that the pill is large.

They gave me a syringe to just squirt the liquid in his mouth, which should be easy enough. Wrong! This little 15 lb dog has the strength of a bull! I have never seen such a little dog with such strength. He is supposed to take the medication every twelve hours. It was a major "fight" this morning to get the medication in him - - well, at least most of it got in his mouth. But tonight I struggled with him for nearly half an hour. I needed 4 hands - to hold him, hold his head, hold the syringe and get his mouth open. After that I was completely exhausted - - he, however, was fine and ready to play.

I will have to come up with a different approach for giving him this medication from now on. I can't take the struggle any more. He is a dear, sweet little dog............but 15lbs of pure muscle!

A MySpace friend

Federico Balducci is another of our MySpace friends whose music I enjoy. He is from Spain and composes and plays classical type music. The music is piano, organ, and piano mixed with strings.

Of the four musical pieces on his MySpace page, my favorites are Theme and Variation, and El caballo vigila a.... It has been a pleasure communicating with him.

Changes

Some more changes have been made to the Music 2 Work 2 MySpace page. The logo that you will now see associated with Music 2 Work 2 is the water drop rather than the notes. I love the water drop; I think it is perfect for the sessions of Music 2 Work 2.

I also put up a clip from Paul-55. This session was composed at the end of last year. I had a hard time knowing where to end the clip - the entire session is so good. But, I finally just chose a section that is a particular favorite and hope visitors to our MySpace page will like it also. It is a really lovely piece of piano and strings.

One of our new MySpace friends is Douglas McCann Music from Carlsbad, California. The music is listed as Classical, and the sound is slightly similar to some Music 2 Work 2 sessions.

The music is a combination of piano and violin, with one of the pieces available on MySpace, "Love Rules" featuring the violin as the prominent instrument. I enjoy listening to this lovely music. I think my favorite of the four musical pieces is "Les Anges Voces." It is very interesting to read the profile about Douglas McCann and the music. You might want to check out this musician's work.

I pretty much took the day off yesterday, in celebration of my birthday. That is the reason no blog was posted.

Birthdays are strange times when you reach my age..........depressing on the one hand because you realize so much of your life is over. I have gone through many really horrible times in my life, so I should actually be thankful to have made it through all that and to have reached this age. At times, I am kind of amazed that in spite of too many surgeries to count and all the pain I have lived with since I was born, that I am actually still here, keeping on keeping on.

The good part about birthdays, even at my age, is the realization that so many friends care enough about you to remember your birthday and wish you well. I am extremely grateful for the friends in my life, who have gone through so many of the bad and difficult times with me; and for my family who has been a part of them all, who has stuck by me, made accommodations for me when my physical limitations have been a problem, and who take on additional work doing things for me, as well as what they need to do for themselves. A great deal of credit goes to friends and family that I have managed to reach this age..............No, it's not 80, 70 or even 60 - -- between 50 and 60 - - but at times it seems like 100!

We have received some really nice responses from other MySpace musicians who we have invited to become our MySpace friends. It is exciting to me to read positive comments from people who have never heard of us, but after checking out our web site or MySpace page, really compliment the music. Of course, I have nothing to do with the music, except uploading it onto web sites. I know it's wonderful - I tell Andrew that all the time. It makes me feel good when others like it as much as I do, and I'm sure it must be very satisfying for Andrew to hear the compliments from his fellow musicians.

I will continue contacting people, inviting them to be our friend. It is a slow process, but rewarding to have people who truly appreciate the music and the concept of Music 2 Work 2, responding so positively.

It is the start of another week and many of the same tasks continue. I do hope to get a couple of new Music 2 Work 2 sessions cut down so that they can be uploaded on MySpace or other web sites.

This is a busy time of year for the non-profit organization in which I do volunteer work. It may end up demanding more of my time than I would like, but it will all work out.

Still concentrating on working on our MySpace friends. The new look to our MySpace page is now finished; I really like it.

One thing that I have found with MySpace.com is that they don't give enough information about the features of the site. The FAQs and the "Help" link talk more about the MySpace accounts than they do about managing the features available.

On the world map, the icon indicates that I'm not even in the United States. I spent quite a while trying to find some information about how it could be changed. I guess I'm just dense or blind, but I finally noticed that the World Map is handled from a whole different web site.

Maybe the problem is not with the "Help" section of the MySpace web site. Maybe I just need more help than most people.

Music on MySpace

Today, I changed some of the music on our MySpace page. I removed a piece that has been up since first signing up with MySpace and replaced it with Beautiful, a lovely, earlier composition of Music 2 Work 2. I plan to be making some other changes as well, as soon as I can cut down a couple other sessions.

We can only have 4 pieces of music on the MySpace page at a time, so I'll just be rotating off some of the ones that have been up longest and uploading different ones. Watch for more new ones.

Heath

There were four new sessions posted on Music 2 Work 2.com during the month of April. I have written about the others; the fourth one is Heath. It is piano and strings and has a moderate tempo.

Listening to this session, the image it evokes for me is of a gentle rain; not a storm, but just the steady falling of raindrops to the earth to nourish and refresh nature. It reminds me of the kind of rain that leaves everything looking green and alive.

May Day

Happy May Day! Some people associate May 1st with the beginning of summer; in some countries it is associated with labor and worker's rights. In the USA, it has been adopted as a focus on immigrant workers' rights.

For me, May 1st is more an indication that we have seen the last of winter weather - no more freezing temperatures to kill the flowers and newly sprouting foliage. I usually feel pretty confident about planting flowers after May 1st, knowing the risk of their being killed by an unexpected freeze is over.

May brings with it sad memories on Mother's Day and my mother's birthday, knowing that I no longer have her here to celebrate her special occasions. And, it brings the depressing knowledge of my increasing age. I remember dancing around the May Pole when I was in elementary school at the May Day Festival. How could so much time have passed since then?

179

Another new session that was added to Music 2 Work 2.com recently is 179. It is one of my new favorites. It is a mix of piano and strings. The first half is upbeat with a fast tempo, and it contains lots of "fancy finger-work. The second half is a much slower tempo, but variations of a predominant melody from the first part can still be heard.

At a length of 41 minutes, it is a perfect session "to work to."

This seems to have been the week for pets getting ill. Lola, the dog of Andrew, my partner in Music 2 Work 2, Kelli's cat (of Kelli and the Shadowmen) and my dog, Doogan have all been sick. It is so hard when a pet is ill - you feel so helpless because they can't tell you what is wrong.

For so many people, their pets are members of the family. And when a family member hurts, you hurt also. I have been sending good thoughts, healing thoughts, across the country to California all day. So, I just want to wish all the sick pets speedy recoveries and good health soon. Hopefully next week will be a healthier one for our much loved, four-legged family members.

New Session on Music 2 Work 2.com

There is a brand new music session available on Music 2 Work 2. com. Emma was composed just last week. I find it a little different from some of the other sessions; it is a very interesting piece. It is solely piano and contains a mixture of mood and tempo.

The image or thought that comes to mind when I listen to Emma is of "life." A single note, that is prominent at times throughout the session, reminds me of a clock or time ticking along. Like life, there are parts of the session that are somber and dramatic; there are parts that are light and cheerful - even "jazzy." The sound of the piano is sometimes simple, and sometimes complicated. It reminds me of the changes, the ups and downs, the joys and sorrows of life.

Go to the Music 2 Work 2 web site to "Free Music" and listen to this new session for yourself. You will need to register first but it's easy and and it's free.

It is said that four-leaf clovers are lucky, especially if found just by chance. According to Wikipedia, "it has been estimated that there are approximately 10,000 three-leaf clovers for every four-leaf clover." I suppose it is those odds that make finding one "lucky." Each leaf supposedly stands for something different - hope, faith, love , with the fourth leaf standing for good luck.

Since I have adopted Doogan, just a little over a month ago, I have found 9 four-leaf clovers at different times while walking him - - with each one, just looked down and there it was! I could certainly use some good luck.........good luck would be fantastic for Music 2 Work 2, also.

Since clover (shamrock) is associated with Ireland and St. Patrick's Day, I suppose it is fitting that I have found all the "lucky clovers" when I have been outside with Doogan. I adopted him on St. Patrick's Day - hence, his name. I am very lucky to have him; he is such a joy.

I don't know whether a four-leaf clover will bring good luck or not - - with finding 9 of them in such a short period of time, I would think that would bring lots of good luck. And, if so, I'm ready and waiting!

A new toy

I have been playing with a new toy today - - a software program that allows you to cut a long music session down to a clip that can be uploaded on web sites such as MySpace.com. Music 2 Work 2 sessions are typically much longer than ordinary songs; that's part of their beauty and benefit as background music to listen to while performing a task or concentrating on something. In the past, Andrew had to be the one to make clips of the sessions since I did not have the software for doing so. Now that my computer is upgraded, I have the software, too. I haven't quite learned all about it yet, but it certainly is fun to be able to select certain portions of a session as a clip of the session.

When I have mastered doing this, I will be able to prepare clips of new sessions Andrew records and upload them for others to hear, rather than him having to find the time to do it. I am so glad to have my computer upgraded!

Computer upgraded............finally!

It has been a while since I was able to post a blog; my computer was out of commission for a few days while I was trying to upgrade the operating system. It looked for a while like we were stuck in a problem with no way to solve it. Thank goodness Andrew knows so much more about computers than I do. We spent several hours on the phone on Saturday with him trying to help me.........and hallelujah, he was able to solve the problem.

I got the OS downloaded and then spent most of yesterday putting the other software back on that I had had previously. So far everything seems to be working correctly and I have been able to download some software to use for Music 2 Work 2 that I couldn't before. Learning to use and getting used to the different programs will take me a while; but, it is very exciting to have finally gotten it upgraded successfully and to have the ability to use the new programs.

With the horrible events taking place in the world, I find it especially hard to write a blog. Not that similar things haven't been going on all along. But, when something as senseless and disturbing as the horror that took place in Virginia this week happens, it brings to the forefront of my thinking just how fragile life is. There is not much more that I can say.

The weather did not cooperate with getting my computer backed up and upgraded over the weekend. We had severe thunderstorms, tornado watches, and severe winds so much of the weekend that I couldn't even have the computer on. Many people are without power around here because of high winds blowing down trees on power lines. Luckily, I have not lost my electricity...........so the task continues.

Upgrading computer

My task for the weekend is to back-up the data on my computer and upgrade it. I don't think the upgrading will be so bad, but I have accumulated so much "stuff" - my computer is loaded. It will take me many hours to back-up all the programs and information I need to keep. I'm afraid my tendency to be a "pack-rat" has spilled over to the handling of my computer, also. Wish me luck!

New MySpace Page

Part of our new Music 2 Work 2 MySpace page is up. There is some tweaking to do but I think it is going to look fantastic! Keep watching as the final touches are added.

A Night of Music

My niece is about to graduate from college with a degree in music. She plays a variety of instruments, but her true love is percussion - marimba, vibraphone, etc. I attended her final college percussion ensemble concert tonight. It was wonderful classical pieces and one piece an adaptation of the hymn, O Sacred Head, Now Wounded, that had been written in memory of a friend of the composer.

The interesting thing about music performed by a percussion ensemble is that some of it is loud and booming, some soft and melodic. I have to admit that I prefer the pieces with a recognizable melody, but I also appreciate the difficulty and skill it takes to perform the pieces that, to my untrained ear are lacking in a distinct melody.

Following the main percussion ensemble concert, my niece played in a short steel drum concert. Listening to the lively, tropical-sounding music of the steel drums always makes me feel good. It's hard to listen to it and not tap a foot or move to the beat of the music.

In a matter of a couple of hours tonight, I had the privilege of enjoying a great variety of music. I couldn't help but think what an important and joyful part of life music is for me. And, regardless of the type of music, the instument(s) on which it is played, music is a powerful factor in the lives of most everyone. I am very glad it is so much a part of my life, and that my niece has chosen music as her career.

Even though the weather felt more like we should have been celebrating Christmas, Easter was a time for good food, and fellowship with family and friends.

My work continues on MySpace. com - getting new friends for Music 2 Work 2. The new design for our MySpace page is coming along and should be up before long. It is going to look terrific so be sure and watch for that.

The beauty of spring

In NC, the dogwood trees, azaleas and all the spring flowers are in full bloom. We have had unusually warm temperatures for the past few weeks so it seems almost overnight the outdoors are ablaze with color. Of course with the beautiful blossoms comes the pollen which brings the headaches, watery eyes, runny noses.............ah, the allergies of spring!

But, as often happens, Mother Nature has decided to now give us the "winter" we haven't had. With the temperatures falling into the 20's at night, most likely the tender new growth and blooms won't be beautiful for long. Easter morning is expected to be one of the coldest so far and it is all likely to freeze.

I suppose the message in all this is - - even through watery eyes, take in the beauty of nature around you whenever it happens, for however briefly it may appear. It would be a shame to let such glory pass unnoticed or unappreciated.

FIQL

We received an email about some changes that have been made at FIQL.com. I spent a while checking those out today; they have added blogs and an artist section.

We had already registered on this web site months ago and uploaded music onto playlists. I really couldn't see anything much that is different about the site except for the blogs. There are the usual forums, friends lists, etc. Seemed an awful lot like most of the other sites of this type and pretty much as it was already.

Hoorah! I was able to put a new Music 2 Work 2 session clip on our MySpace page today. It is a very beautiful piece composed by Andrew for his sister's birthday. Check it out!

Adding new music to MySpace

I have been trying to find out exactly how long a musical piece can be to be uploaded on the MySpace web site. I can't find that it tells that anywhere in the FAQs, Terms, etc.

Today I deleted one of the clips we already had on our MySpace page, since we had the limit of four, and decided to just try to upload a new session. It looked like it was almost going to make it.........but, unfortunately, the file was too large. So, we'll just have to wait to get the newer sessions on the MySpace page until clips can be made of them. In the meantime, the new sessions can be heard in their entirety on Music 2 Work 2.com.

Still working on MySpace

In requesting friends on MySpace.com, we are trying several different methods to see which gets the best results. We don't want friends just for the numbers, but people we can actually communicate with and who become our friend because they like our music.

After a week of trying to learn about MySpace, and using sort of trial and error methods, I have learned a lot and we have increased our number of friends somewhat. We are planning to soon have a new look to our MySpace page so that's something exciting to look forward to.

Still learning about MySpace.com. Probably to those much younger than I am, it just all comes naturally. Kids today seem to be born knowing how to do all the computer stuff. But, I'll just have to keep "feeling" my way around.

Friend hunting

I have been working on MySpace.com today. It still feels like a strange process to me to ask someone to "be your friend."

I am amazed at how many friends some of the musical groups have on this site. They must spend all their time requesting that others be their friends. That, or someone is requesting it of them.
Either way, it is a time consuming process so some people must do nothing but this.

Nothing much to write about today - much of it spent at the oral surgeon's office and finishing up some things for the organization for which I do volunteer work. The oral surgeon's report was mildly hopeful; I am beginning to have some tingling where the nerve damage from the teeth extraction is. Hopefully that means the nerve is rejuvenating itself.

I left Doogan in the crate again today while I was gone - for about 2 hours - and for the second time in a row, he was a perfect angel! Thank goodness maybe we are past the worse part of the separation anxiety. He still cries when I leave, but if crying is all he does, (although it makes me feel really terrible to leave him) I guess we can live with that. I hope that part, too, will end as soon as he is absolutely certain I am coming back!

Shame on Earthlink

I suppose there is no such thing as truth in advertising anymore - at least for some companies. I went through hell a few months ago changing to Earthlink's TruVoice system. No one I talked to knew what they were talking about; I was passed from one technical support person to another and told something different by each person I spoke to.

They had lied about the cost of the services I was supposed to be receiving - - left out the part about the Internet access, that was supposedly included, being extra. The reception was horrible; everyone I have talked to since having this service has complained about noise on the line, inability to hear what I'm saying, etc. Finally, I had had enough and have arranged to change phone and Internet service. When I called to cancel Earthlink, they had the nerve to tell me there would be a $100 plus charge for the disconnection fee! They claimed I signed a contract for one year, which it has not been; no one even mentioned a one year time period - I would have thought they were talking about how long it was going to take to get it set up and working, if they had! I haven't signed anything for them and I'm not about to pay a disconnection fee. How do companies get by with such things??

I have talked about my phone and Internet access problems before but don't believe I have indicated the company to which I was referring. Well, I am now...................Earthlink and Earthlink TruVoice service. Take the advice of one with experience - a horrible experience - you don't want to sign up with them!! Two cans and a string would work about as well as their phone service!

Keeping up with the music sites

We've decided that I will start concentrating on learning as much as I can about myspace.com. We are already registered and have music up on the site, but in order to take full advantage of the services offered, I need to learn much more.

This is just one of the web sites that I'll need to focus on in coming months. Music 2 Work 2 clips are available on quite a few sites, however, the sites keep changing and improving - - to benefit from everything that each one has to offer, takes a lot of time "keeping up" with each one. I think I have my work cut out for me!

Doogan

The visit of my friend from Texas has come to an end and I took her to the airport to return home this afternoon. It was an enjoyable visit, although it is a little tiring for me to have guests here. Not that I can wait on them or even be a very good host, but just the change in routine makes things somewhat difficult.

I hope that now that Doogan and I are here alone, we can really get down to getting him accustomed to being left alone without his “freaking out,” and can get settled into a routine that suits him and me. He doesn’t like to be left in a crate; tiny, little fellow that he is, somehow he bent the metal bars of the crate. His foster mom was not expecting him to have separation anxiety, but unfortunately, he does. He has bonded with me quickly and I am crazy about him - - we just have a few issues that need to be sorted out.

A visit to Seagrove

I have a friend visiting from Texas, so to let her “experience” some of North Carolina and its areas of interest, we went to the area known as Seagrove today. Seagrove, NC is a small town in Piedmont NC known for handmade pottery. Seagrove and the surrounding area is sometimes referred to as the “pottery capital of NC” and even the world.”

In a rural 20-mile area, there are over 90 pottery shops; pottery making has continued here uninterrupted over the past two centuries. It is a fun and interesting place to visit. There is no way you can make it to all the shops in one visit. It is one of my favorite places to go, so I have favorites that are a “must” each time I go back. In many of the shops, the potters can be viewed as they work on the wheels, shaping the lumps of clay into pitchers, vases, bowls, oil lamps, etc. that will eventually be glazed and fired in wood or gas burning kilns.

Going from shop to shop, some of which are small, rustic structures, is an experience that visitors from all over the world enjoy year round. It is a peaceful setting, the pottery varies in style, shape and glaze, but all beautifully made, and the prices can’t be beat.

Kelli and the Shadowmen

I hear the stage show rehearsal of Kelli and the Shadowmen held last Friday afternoon went great. The people who were invited to attend the rehearsal apparently had a good time. I couldn’t be there in person, although I would have loved to be, but I surely was there in spirit.

I am so excited for them as they are about to start their tour on their Big Black Bus. Since Andrew, my partner in Music 2 Work 2, is one of the Shadowmen, I have followed the development and progress of this group. Watch for their shows when they come to your town. I’m really looking forward to attending a show myself.

A new friend

Over the weekend, I became the owner of another dog. He can never replace my dear Cassie, but I missed having the companionship of a loving animal around. I adopted him from the SPCA. He is a wonderful little guy who just wants attention and love.

Having adopted him on St. Patrick’s Day, we thought an Irish name would be fitting; his name is Doogan, which means “dark lad.” He is a pug/terrier/? mix, solid black with black eyes and only one small white patch on his chest. He has added joy to my life already. I’m so glad to have found him.

Music 2 Work 2

I’ve been listening to a lot of Music 2 Work 2 this week. Now that I feel better and am trying to get caught up on some of the work I got so far behind with while I was sick, I have had Music 2 Work 2 playing in the background any time I’m at the computer.

I suppose I am a little biased – after all, I wouldn’t be involved with Music 2 Work 2 if I didn’t like the music and believe in the project. But, even though I listen to the sessions over and over again, I don’t tire of them and I continue to marvel at just how beautiful the music is.

The sessions composed originally are wonderful; but, I think the ones Andrew has composed in the past year are even more wonderful - absolutely fantastic! The sessions containing more voices – strings, organ, etc. have such fullness and depth to them. I am anxious to get busy letting everyone know about Music 2 Work 2. That will come when we get some changes and improvements made to the web site. We are constantly getting more people registering on the site anyway; that’s terrific and I’m so glad they are finding us. But, I’m ready to let the entire world know about Music 2 Work 2 and share this marvelous music with them.

Oh, what I wouldn't give to be in Los Angeles tomorrow. Kelli and the Shadowmen are having a stage show rehearsal to which they are inviting a select few friends and family. I would really love to be there for that!

If you have followed the On The Big Black Bus Blog, you know how much fun they have performing together. The music is great and I'm sure it's gonna be a blast! But, I'll have to wait to catch one of their shows when they get to this side of the country. I can hardly wait!!

Change a-comin'

Several months ago, I went through a nightmare trying to change my phone and Internet service to the same company, at a price I could afford. It was pure hell. Everything went wrong; I was without phone and Internet service for days, spent an unreasonable number of hours on the phone or computer with tech support, to end up with a connection that was always bad. Everyone I talked to complained about the poor reception.

I found out a couple of weeks ago, that in addition to all this, they had just lied to me about the service that was included in the price quoted. I consider myself a fairly intelligent person and am pretty cautious about getting all the facts in situations like this. I had asked several times and of several different people exactly what was included in the price they were quoting me. Each time I was told it included everything – unlimited local and long distance telephone service and unlimited Internet access. Wrong!!

So, having found out that the cost was not what I was told, I have been looking for another company with which to have phone and Internet service. I decided on another company today and certainly hope that things go smoother this time. One rather sad part of all this is that the telephone number, which was assigned to this residence 51 years ago when my parents built the house I am living in, will have to be changed. It will be hard enough to make sure everyone who needs to be is aware of the new number; it will be even harder for me to remember it after all these years!

Growing up in the south, every Saturday night included watching one of my father’s favorite TV programs, Hee-Haw. The program was way too corny for my taste, but there was a song (actually just the chorus) as part of a regular segment on the show that caught my attention and “spoke to me.“ As a matter of fact, I used to claim it as my theme song. The words to the chorus of the song were:

“Gloom, despair, and agony on me
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all
Gloom, despair, and agony on me.”

My memory is not very good for most things, but somehow those words have remained in my mind. Thank goodness I am in a much better place in my life today then I was back then, so it doesn’t hold the same relevance for me now. I have to admit, however, that I have thought of that chorus a few times in the past several months. Since before the end of last year, I have been faced with one problem after another – loss, medical problems, major unexpected household problems and expenses – so I guess it is the part about bad luck that has made me think of it. But, I am also aware of the good luck I have now – the good luck of being a part of Music 2 Work 2.com, of having the opportunity to work with a very talented musician and friend. Being a part of Music 2 Work 2 is exciting.........and will only get better and better!

Best-laid plans

In his poem, “To a Mouse,” Robert Burns recognized that “the best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men / Gang aft agley,” (that's the way my partner in Music 2 Work 2 would probably say it) - - or in other words, “ the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” Well, my plans for last week certainly went awry. Between recovering from extracted impacted wisdom teeth and then contracting the Norovirus, I ended up not getting to do a single thing I had planned to do.

I am hoping, as my strength slowly returns, to be able to do writing here, as well as all the things I was planning for last week. Sorry for the silence on this end.

More Changes

One of my projects for this week is to backup the data on my computer and upgrade the operating system. Having never done this kind of thing before, I'm somewhat leery, but I suppose everything will go ok.

The system I have been using is Windows ME - a really crazy edition of Windows in that it is not very compatible with any other Windows' systems or other programs. I have a feeling backing up the information that is currently on my hard drive will be the most time consuming and worse part. It will, however, be so nice to be able to once again have a system that is supported by Microsoft and that will work with other programs that will make life easier.

Changing look of the blog

In anticipation of changes we will be making to the Music 2 Work 2 web site in a few weeks, I am trying to find what changes will be best for our blog with our new look. I will probably try a couple before my partner and I decide on a definite one.

This is the first time I have customized the blog since all the many choices for everything have been available. It' s kind of fun to try the different looks and arrangements. Anyway, for a while, the blog may look different each time you view it.

We have discussed some of the changes that will be made to the web site, but I think Andrew knows pretty much exactly the way he wants it to look. I have a difficult time making decisions; he is much better at it than I am. So, I know that the blog changes will fit perfectly with the new look of Music 2 Work 2.com.

Storms approching

Having spent the morning back at the oral surgeon's office, I haven't had a chance to write about anything today - not even sure exactly what I would write about, if there was time. But, bad storms are headed this way, according to the weather forecasters - possible tornados included. So, I'm going to turn off the computer and "batten down the hatches." It's a little early for tornados in this area, but I suppose with what we have done to the environment, anything is possible now. Hopefully the tornado forecast will be wrong; torrential rain and high winds are all we have gotten so far, which is quite enough as far as I'm concerned.

Boys Bedtime Music

One of the most soothing sessions on Music 2 Work 2.com is Boys' Bedtime Music. It is a piece done solely on the piano at a rhythmic, moderately fast tempo. Listening to this piece, you can almost feel yourself relaxing and the stress melting away.

The image that comes to mind while listening to this music is that of a flower, perhaps a rose – first, as a bud, it’s petals wrapped tightly. But, with time, the petals begin to unfold. The bud becomes looser, more relaxed; individual petals become apparent, spreading out until the full beauty of the flower is revealed.

Music does help

Still not quite back up to par from dental surgery last week, but I wanted to report that listening to Music 2 Work 2 sessions following the surgery did seem to help me feel better. It didn't stop the pain......oh, how I wish it had.......but the music helped me to relax; it was soothing and calming.

Prior to putting up the Music 2 Work 2 web site, we did research about the benefits of music in various areas of human beings' lives. There were many articles that we sited attesting to ways music helps people; many studies were being done at that time. Today, about one year later, there are even more articles and studies concerning the relationship of music to health, stress, concentration, etc. You might want to check out some of the articles we have listed - - we will be adding more.

Life does get hard at times. I've got to have some oral surgery this morning and I'm dreading it like the dickens! Similar past experiences have never gone very well.......but it's one of those things that can't be avoided.

I'm sure I won't be writing anything from my "fog" after the surgery today, although it might be much more interesting than anything I write with a "clear head." I plan to try listening to Music 2 Work 2 to see if it helps with the pain that will inevitably be associated. I'll let you know the results when I'm able.

I have always liked music and enjoyed listening to it, but it has only been since becoming involved with Music 2 Work 2 that I have become aware of the extent of the power of music. One of the wonderful things about Music 2 Work 2 sessions is their versatility – they can be used in different ways........as background music to help you concentrate, music to help you relax, music to inspire you, music to make you feel good, music to help you heal.

After losing my dear dog, Cassie, listening to the music composed for her helped ease the pain and sadness I was feeling from her loss. The music changed the “video” that played in my mind when I thought of her. The image of her suffering and of her departing this life was replaced by one of her playing, enjoying life, bouncing along on her three legs as she did, as if the fourth one was never even needed. Andrew was able to capture this image of her by working whatever magic he does using significant numbers for whomever the session is composed. This is a unique gift that he possesses.

I’ve just been listening again to the music that I watched Andrew compose and play when I was in LA. A couple of pieces were themes that have been in the works for a while, that he has been developing over time. The first tracks of several brand new sessions were also recorded. Composing music seems to come as naturally to him as breathing does to me. I am grateful to be one of the beneficiaries of such great talent and powerful music, and to be able to play a part in sharing it with the rest of the world.

A different kind of music

You may have noticed one of the links on this blog - Kelli. This is a totally different type of music from Music 2 Work 2, sort of country rock, but if you like to explore different types of music, I would certainly recommend checking out this band. As a matter of fact, the composer of Music 2 Work 2 is also one of the songwriters, musicians and vocalists in this group - - what a versatile talent he is!

Kelli and her Shadowmen are preparing to begin touring soon. Listening to their music you know the live shows have got to be a blast! Just wanted to pass this bit of info on - - check them out and then watch for that Big Black Bus to come to your town!

Feeling Miserable

I think I must have picked up a “bug” on the airplane coming back from Los Angeles on Monday – sore throat, achy, headache, fever, - so I’m feeling pretty miserable today. Even though my intention was to add to the Music 2 Work 2 blog, I really don’t feel up to doing that. In stead, I’m going back to bed, armed with Music 2 Work 2 sessions to listen to, to help soothe my misery, and make me feel better. Hopefully I will have kicked this by Monday and can be back at it again then. Have a good weekend.

In the near future, we plan to make some changes to the Music 2 Work 2 web site, make purchasing a download easier and most likely add some photographs so you will know who the human being is composing this beautiful music. We are very excited about what lies ahead for Music 2 Work 2.com.

Our first anniversary is coming up and with it the launch of a newsletter for all of you who have registered on the site. We have some fun, extra features planned, as well. The number of individuals registering on the site continues to increase almost daily. And, the new music being posted is better than ever before.

Tell all your friends and family about Music 2 Work 2 – background music that can help. We’ve tried it; we work to it and find that it helps us to focus and makes the task we are involved in more pleasant. We can’t promise it will do the same for you, although we feel confident it will, but we can assure you that it is beautiful music wherever it is listened to or however it is used.

New Music Session Available

One of the new music sessions composed while I was with Andrew in LA is now available on the Music 2 Work 2 web site. Charlotte, is of course, special to me in that it bears my name. It is a beautiful melody consisting of piano and strings.

Listening to this piece, many thoughts go through my mind:

I remember my amazement at watching the piece be composed.

I think about how wonderful it is to have a friendship you know will last because it is based on mutual respect, understanding, and shared basic beliefs about life.

I also think about the way things work out, whether by accident or as part of some grand scheme - - how an extremely talented musician from Scotland, and a woman from NC with only an appreciation for good music, could possibly end up working together on a project they both believe in, Music2Work2.com, an online music distribution site.

And, I think about how it is the unlikely events, the unlikely friendships that make life exciting and interesting. I am honored to have this session bear my name.

Visit to LA

In conjunction with attending a meeting in Los Angeles last week, I was able to fly out a few days early and visit with my partner in Music 2 Work 2.com and his wonderful family. Although we have frequent communication, it was good to be able to discuss plans and ideas for Music 2 Work 2.com in person. I love going to LA - life there is such a drastic change from life in rural NC.
One of the most enjoyable and very special parts of this visit was being present while Andrew composed some new music sessions. I have always been in awe of the fact that he can sit down at the piano or keyboard and an original composition just flows from his fingertips. Actually watching this take place - hearing the clicking of the metronome guiding the tempo to which he plays, watching his fingers move across the keys producing beautiful chords and melodies - was amazing! I am even more in awe of the talent and creativity he possesses to be able to compose in this way.

The first tracks of several really wonderful new sessions were recorded that night. I can hardly wait to hear the finished products and have them available on the web site for Music 2 Work 2 fans to hear also. The music just continues to get better and better!

Late 791

Late 791 is a session on Music 2 Work 2.com that consists solely of piano tones. It is a dramatic musical piece, full of changes in tempo and mood. It begins at a slow tempo with an almost solemn sound. Further into the piece, the rhythm changes to a faster tempo and the mood becomes livelier. A dramatic change in tempo about half way through leads into a section reminiscent of Moonlight Sonata. The ending has a happy, more upbeat tempo giving it a hopeful feel.

For me this piece speaks of change - whether changes in life, changes in attitude, changes in feelings and moods. It has slow, solemn parts, sections where it is more mellow and more cheerful, one part where it is even dark and sad. But, Late 791 ends with a rhythmic, cheerful sound indicating to me that whatever the changes are about, there is hope and a possibility for peace and contentment.

Ex Er Cise clip

I suppose it is because of my appreciation of nature, and the awesomeness and majestic beauty I find in creation’s scenery, that it is those types of imagery many of the Music 2 Work 2 sessions produce for me. The Ex Er Cise clip (Sexercise) on Music 2 Work 2.com is one such piece. It is a mix of strings and piano in a slow, rhythmic tempo. It is calming and relaxing.

Listening to this session, the imagery it elicits for me is of the ocean – its vastness, the waves breaking against the shore, the water flowing across the sand and slowly receding back into the ocean........... for the action to be repeated again and again. The soothing calmness I feel when listening to the beautiful Ex Er Cise clip is the same feeling I experience when watching the ebb and flow of the water of the ocean.

Arrival

The session, Arrival, on Music 2 Work 2. com is a musical piece that makes you feel good! It consists of piano and strings and the tempo is relatively fast, upbeat.

The imagery evoked for me by this session is that something great and happy is about to happen. The music seems to be announcing this event. Arrival actually was written for a wedding. But, whether it is a wedding or some other joyous event, the music tells me that the approaching event is something wonderful - something life changing. It elicits an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation. Just listening to Arrival makes me smile.

Richard

There is a fantastic new session on Music 2 Work 2.com. entitled Richard. It is unlike any of the other sessions in the way it was composed and in the sound. The rhythm in general is upbeat with a brief, dramatic change in sound and tempo about half way through the piece. This session is a mix of piano and four string voices.

Richard was written as a birthday gift for the composer’s brother by that name. I hear the beautiful harmony produced by the piano and strings as representative of the harmony that is typical of most relationships between brothers, family members, or friends. As is almost always the case, however, relationships whether between family members or friends, do not consist of harmony all the time. Conflicts, disagreements, misunderstandings, unrealized expectations often become an element in relationships, but hopefully for only a brief period of time. To me, this seems to be what the dramatic change in sound near the middle of this session represents.

I know both the composer and his brother, although I don’t know Richard as well as I do Andrew. They are talented, brilliant, kind, wonderful human beings. This beautiful session, Richard, is a perfect representation of the beautiful and unique human beings they both are.

Wendi's Theme

Wendi’s Theme, the older version, on Music 2 Work 2.com is a session that combines strings and piano. It has a slow, mellow tempo, as does the more recently posted Wendi’s Theme; however, the 5.06.2006 version consists of only one voice, the piano.

When listening to this version of Wendi’s Theme, as well as the more recent one, my mood becomes one of contemplation. My thoughts turn to my life, my relationships, who I am as a human being, and what place I hold in the universe. Something about the beautiful music leads my thoughts in that direction, which I think is probably a good thing now and then.

Anam Cara is a beautiful little musical piece on Music 2 Work 2.com that makes you feel good. The piano is the only voice in this session, which has an upbeat, uplifting tempo. The clear notes of the piano bring to mind simplicity and even a sense of purity.

Having traveled over the past several days, spending a lot of time driving in a mixture of wintry precipitation, listening to Anam Cara, the imagery that now comes to mind is that of the snowflakes as they danced through the air. Sometimes large flakes, sometimes tiny ones, they fell softly, gently, making everything around look pure, clean and bright. The snow was so beautiful to look at, but unlike the pleasant feeling I get when listening to Anam Cara, driving in the snow was treacherous and anxiety producing.

The Duel Clip

In Music 2 Work 2’s The Duel clip, the piano and strings almost seem to be in a competition themselves. The rhythm of the strings is much faster than the slower tempo of the piano. The competition is not mean or one of anger, it seems that in this piece, each voice is more “doing its own thing” although occurring at the same time, in a harmonious way.

It makes me think of the conflict that goes on in human beings between good and evil, or doing what is the right thing as opposed to doing the easy thing. I think this is a common struggle, seen in practically all areas of ones life. It may be easier to give up when times get rough but commitment and integrity or courage keeps you fighting. It may be easier to do a job half-way but honor and pride push you to doing your best and giving your all. Listening to The Duel, the prominence of the piano at the end of the clip and ending on the high notes indicates to me that the good or right is victorious in the struggle. Hopefully that is the result in most cases.

Beautiful Clip

The musical clip Beautiful on Music 2 Work 2.com definitely bears the correct name. The combination of strings and piano produce a melody, with mixed tempos, that is indeed beautiful.

One image that is evoked for me by this piece is of a sunrise. The rays of sun slowly begin to peak through the darkness as the sun rises above the horizon, heralding a new day. Beautiful is one of those musical pieces that make you feel good. It is a reminder that each new day is a gift to be celebrated and treasured.

1218 Clip 1

1218 Clip 1 on Music 2 Work 2.com is a musical piece that combines piano and strings in a faster rhythm than some of the other sessions. The rhythm quickens and slows and the piano and strings seem to alternate as the dominant voice in the piece.

In listening closely to this clip, the imagery that is evoked for me is of a rain storm. The clear notes of the piano represent the raindrops as they begin to fall - at times slowly, then faster as it changes from a light shower to a heavy rain, indicated by the strings as they become dominant. As the piece ends, the rain begins to cease as the raindrops fall to the earth more slowly. Nature has been refreshed and nourished. 1218 Clip 1 is a musical piece that I find uplifting and leaves me with a feeling of encouragement.

Annelise

One of the newer sessions on Music 2 Work 2.com is Annelise. This is an interesting musical piece in that it seems to me to have three distinct parts. The first is slow and rhythmic, the strings and piano combine in a calm and harmonious way. About one third of the way through the session, the rhythm becomes faster and the feel is more one of expectancy or urgency. There are changes in tone, and rhythm – it has a jazzy beat. The third part returns to the slower rhythm and tone, at first still not as calm and peaceful as the beginning, but then ends in a slow, softness.

An image that comes to mind when I listen to this session is the development of the human being, the recognition of self and an acceptance of and satisfaction with who we are. Ones early life, childhood, is most often a time of harmony, joy and wonder – innocently being whoever we are. Growing into adulthood brings questions of purpose and identity, a hunger to experience all that life has to offer, an urgency to find answers to the meaning of our existence. As adults and later in life, hopefully there is a realization of who we truly are, and an acceptance and joy in living the life we were intended to live. The calm, slow ending of Annelise signifies to me that such a realization is possible.

Hanging in there.......

I am often struck by the indomitable nature of the human spirit - it generally strikes me when I am incapacitated by circumstance, often depression or grief. The images of people who have nothing realistic to gain by moving, but who do so just because it is better than staying still and dying in defeat, never cease to inspire me.

Even when we don't know if what we are doing is right, even when we doubt what it is that we do - not to do it would surely be more of a crime than doing it and getting it wrong. We are not Doctors, Scientists, responsible for the lives of others by our actions. We are creators, not of life, but of essence that facilitates and enhances life - our creations cannot harm and even imperfect, may do some good.

If we achieve these 5 actions before the end of quarter 1 this year - then we will be delighted - and hopefully so will those who have already signed up.

It is wonderful to see that we are getting a new sign up every 2 days - our one year anniversary is coming up and we intend to celebrate it with a major leap forward.

Relaxing Music

One of my favorite sessions on Music 2 Work 2.com to relax and chill to is Jax’s Theme. The slow melody of the organ at the beginning has a calming, almost sacred feel. The addition of the piano continues the slow rhythm but adds a joyous tone to this piece.

As I listen to this music, I can feel the stress of the day fading away. The word that first comes to mind with this musical piece is “majestic” – the majesty of nature, the majesty of the universe. I am reminded that the cause of my stress was most likely small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things. It would be difficult for me to listen to Jax’s Theme without feeling a sense of peace and joy.

Music - it works!

A recent article in the LA Times entitled “Beethoven and a Barcalounger” talks about the change in the understanding and use of classical music. The Musical Heritage Society is apparently marketing a CD of Mozart’s music as “the perfect relaxing music.” The writer of this article, as probably many classical music aficionados, was somewhat disturbed at classical music being considered “relaxing” or “soothing.” He does admit that music is heard in different ways by different people and not always heard the same each time one listens to a piece. I find that to be true when I listen to Music 2 Work 2 sessions - as music in the background when I am involved in some task, or listening intently and focusing on the music, the rhythm and tones.

Music 2 Work 2 sessions fit into the classical genre, but also in other categories as well. They are wonderful background music to help you concentrate on a task; they are soothing and relaxing; they are joyful and motivating. Music, classical and other types, is helpful – it makes people happy, it makes them feel good, it benefits human beings in an endless number of ways. That is the premise on which Music 2 Work 2 is based and it appears that this recognition is rapidly spreading.

Vincent

The Vincent clip on Music 2 Work 2 is a sweet, melodic piece. The piano is the sole voice or instrument in this one. The clear tones of the piano bring a sense of innocence and simplicity to mind for me – the innocence and simple joy of a child.

This session was written in celebration of the birth of a child. It is representative of the joy surrounding such an event. For me, it also evokes an image of the joy a child might find in something as simple as a flower, as he or she explores the wonders of the world all around them. Vincent is a musical piece that will make you feel good.

A New Year

Andrew will soon be back from his trip to Europe and he tells me he has lots of new ideas and plans for Music 2 Work 2. I know there are plans for more new music, a change in the look of the web site, and who knows what else!

Prospects are encouraging from the business aspect for the sale of digital downloads. Digital Music News reports that according to figures published by Nielsen Soundscan, sales hit a new high of 30.1 million downloads the last week of the year – resulting in over 581.9 million for the year-end total.

So, things are looking good as we begin 2007 to continue our goal of producing and distributing beautiful music, music that helps - - background music that makes whatever task you are involved in more pleasant. We will be starting our second year in 2007- a little wiser and more skilled on my part, but no less enthusiastic.

Dublin - New Year 2007

YEAH!!!!!!!

Happy New Year everybody, welcome to 2007.

I'm sitting in an Internet cafe in Dublin - lubricated with Guiness and listening to "Richard My Brother" which I will have available for download soon - you know - life could be worse!!! The vacation is going superbly - so many cultures to dip into - had a wonderful afternoon listeing to music at Oliver St. John Gogarty's in the Temple Bar - Charlotte would have loved it. Guitar, Whistle and Flute - beautiful stuff - all very similar but wonderful to listen to live.

Live music is such an inspiring experience to me - it makes me want to go and sit at a piano and write - I'm thinking in 6/8 and 3/4 time - movement, green grass and rolling hills - oh and the rain!!! Britain and Ireland are such extremes when compared against California - the weather is cold, the rain freezing and the wind biting - but the pints and the hospitality seem all the warmer for it.....

Looking forward to 2007 - can't wait actually -
